Learn to Skate

Have you always wanted to learn how to skate? Our learn to skate courses are a fantastic way to build you confidence on the ice whilst learning basic skating concepts. From here the sky’s the limit; learn at your own pace to complete the course with a qualified NISA instructor. You too could be skating like you favourite dancing on ice stars.

Times

  • Wednesdays 17.45 & 18.15
  • Thursdays 18.00 & 18.30
  • Saturdays 9.30 & 10.00 & 10.30
  • Sundays 9.30 & 10.00 & 10.30

All courses are 6 weeks long except in April, which are 5 weeks. For those people already on a course priority booking opens from the last day of the previous course for 1 week only. New bookings must be made in person at the ice rink reception and payment must be made at time of booking.

New bookings can only be made from the given booking date. On the booking date bookings must be made in person from 9.00 to 17.00 at the ice rink reception. After 17.00 any remaining spaces will be opened for telephone bookings. Payment is taken on booking. Places are limited.

Levels

  1. Beginner 1Goals - sit and stand on the ice, moving forward (basic skating), Two foot glide and dip stepping around on the spot.
  2. Beginner 2Goals - Moving backwards, half or full snow plough stop, forward skating and two foot glide on a curve
  3. Novice 1Goals - forward one foot glide (straight line), Simple bunny hop forward and backward sculling and one foot glide on a curve (inside edge)
  4. Novice 2Goals - one foot glideon a curve (outside edge), backwards skatingand a two foot glide skating forward and turning to backwards and continuous forward chasses around a circle
  5. Intermediate 1Goals - forward crossover in both directions, backwards snow plough stop, backwards one foot glide and two foot spin (one rev)
  6. Intermediate 2Goals - continuous backwards chasses around a circle, forward two foot slalom. forward outside three turn and backwards skating stepping forward
  7. Improver 1Goals - backwards crossovers in both directions, forward inside three turn, continuous, two foot change of edged on a large curve and forward drag
  8. Improver 2Goals - forward inside Mohawk, backwards crossovers followed by a backwards outside curve, two footchangeof edged on a large curve and forward drag
  9. Advanced 1Goals - forward beginner cross rolls, bunny hop, backwards crossovers followed by backwards inside curve and backwards edges both feet both edges
  10. Advanced 2Goals - forward crossovers in a figure of eight, backwards crossovers in a figure of eight, two foot glide in a spiralling curve and simple step sequence

Private lessons

There is currently a 6 month waiting list. Should you wish to be added to the list please email us telling us your contact details, age, skating ability and availability. When an opening becomes available you will contacted.

Current pupils on the learn to skate courses have one weeks priority booking before the booking date opens to the general public. Should current pupil miss the priority booking week we will be unable to guarantee a space on the next set of courses. Priority booking forms can be posted at main reception. New bookings must be made in person at the main reception from 9am on the booking date, Telephone booking will not be accepted until after 5pm.
